Up to Riomaggiore's village there is an ancient castle dated back to the 13th century.
Near here is located the church of San Giovanni Battista built in 1340.
Telemaco Signorini, a famous Florentine impressionist painter, chose Riomaggiore as his wonderful source of inspiration. |

Riomaggiore has a very beautiful marina with lots of traditional and characteristic boats.
The marina can be reached passing through the main street of the village called Via Colombo and at the end pf it taking the steps on the left, down to the sea.
To the other side taking the tunnel, the train station can be reached. Here is located the starting point of Via dell'Amore, the mythical street of love linking together Riomaggiore and Manarola.
via dell'Amore is known all over the world because of its beauty and its power in making people fall in love. Young and couples come here to reconfirm their love. (very easy trail). |

Manarola is a really small village hollowed out of the rocks with its coloured houses, little alleys and steps going down to the sea.
Up to the village there is the church of San Lorenzo and S. Maria Vergine built in 1338.
from the marina, one track links Manarola and Corniglia.

| Corniglia is a very small village placed on a steep promontory. All the houses are located along the central "Carugio", one typical street, at the end of it Cinque Terre can be seen all together with a splendid view.
From Corniglia one track reaches Vernazza through olive trees, vineyards and the green mediterranean forest.

Vernazza is the only and real natural pier in Cinque Terre from where the boats were leaving to trade agricultural products (such as wine, sciacchetrà, oil, silic, cereal. etc.)
The places, where these products were conserved, became businness premises.
the village is dominated by a watchtower and the castle still remains here.
The church is located above the beach.
in the small square there are boats, restaurants, shops, fishermen and tourists.
From Vernazza one track reaches Monterosso through olove trees, vineyards and the green mediterranean forest.

Monterosso is less rugged than the other "lands".
It is famous for its sprightly fishing tradition, particularly regarding anchovys.
here they are salted and traded.
Life in the village is very active because there are many tourist organization hotels and Monterosso can be considered as the most modern village in Cinque Terre.
it produces a lot of lemons and a delicious liqueur called "limoncino".
Here Eugenio Montale (nobel for the literature) used to take rest and here he wrote many of his famous poetrys. |
